Carolina Giraldo Navarro, known professionally as Karol G
is a Colombian singer and songwriter. She has won a Latin Grammy Award. Her
songs "Ahora Me Llama", "Mi Cama" and "Culpables"
have reached the top ten on the Billboard Magazine Hot Latin Songs chart.
Early
life
Carolina Giraldo Navarro was born on 14 February 1991 in
Medellin to Juan Guillermo and Marta. She is the youngest child of three
children. When she was At age fourteen, she appeared on the Colombian talent
show version of The X Factor.
She studied at Calasanz in MedellÃn, and studied music at
the University of Antioquia before moving to New York to pursue a musical
career. In 2006, she began using the stage name Karol G. She obtained her first
record contract with Flamingo Records (Colombia) & Diamond Music.
Musical
career
In 2007, she recorded and released songs sporadically,
including "En La Playa" and in 2008, "Por Ti" and
"Dime Que Si" in 2009 and "Mil Maneras" in 2010. In 2013,
she collaborated with Puerto Rican singer Nicky Jam and released the song,
"Amor De Dos" which became very popular in Colombia and has reached
over 100 million views on YouTube. Her 2014 dancehall song "Ricos
Besos" became a hit in Colombia.
In February 2017, she released the song "A
Ella", a song inspired by real-life events. In 2017, her collaborative
single with Bad Bunny titled "Ahora Me Llama" was released which has
become popular and quickly gained over 660 million views on YouTube and reached
number 10 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
"Unstoppable" is the debut studio album by
Colombian singer Karol G. It was released on October 27, 2017 by Universal
Music Latin Entertainment. It contained the three aforementioned tracks, and
debuted at number two on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.
In May 2018, she released "Mi Cama", which
became a commercial success. In January 2019, she released the single
"Secreto" with Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA. The single reached
number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number five on the US Hot Latin Songs
charts.
"Ocean" is the second studio album by singer
Karol G. It was released on May 3, 2019 by Universal Music Latin Entertainment.
Karol G released "Tusa", the first single from her album KG0516, on 7
November 2019. "Tusa", became a commercial success, and eventually
being nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 21st Annual
Latin Grammy Awards.
In 2020, Karol G received four nominations at the Latin
Grammys. Karol G achieved her highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100
with the top 20 song "Mamiii", a collaboration with Becky G. In
January 2017, Karol G joined the reality talent show Pequeños Gigantes USA as a
judge, offering advice to children 6–11 years of age who perform on the show.
