Who is Darren Aronofsky?

Darren Aronofsky is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. His films often revolve around obsession and surrealism, melodramatic, and disturbing elements, often based in psychological fictions.

Childhood & Early Life

Aronofsky was born in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, on 12 February 1969. He is the son of Charlotte and Abraham Aronofsky. His mother is teachers and Aronofsky has one sister named Patti. Aronofsky graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School. At the age of 18, in 1991 Aronofsky graduated from Harvard University, where he studied filmmaking.



He became seriously interested in film, when he studying at Harvard University. Aronofsky's debut neo-noir psychological thriller film, titled Pi—was shot in November 1997 and released in 1998 and the film won the Best Director award. Aronofsky made psychological drama film Requiem for a Dream on October 2000. The film was nominated for five awards in total, winning two, for Best Actress and Cinematography and Best Director. The film was nominated for another Independent Spirit Award, this time for Best Director. His epic magical realism romantic drama film The Fountain released on November 22, 2006.


His ports psychological drama film The Wrestler released in 2008. At the 65th Venice International Film Festival His film The Wrestler won the Golden Lion. Film The Wrestler become Aronofsky's highest-grossing film to that point. Aronofsky's next film was Black Swan, which was a psychological thriller released in 2010. His film Black Swan received several accolades, including 12 Broadcast Film Critics Association nominations, four Independent Spirit Award nominations, 4 Golden Globe nominations, 3 SAG nominations, five Academy Awards, PRISM Award and many more accolades.


Aronofsky's next film was Noah, released in 2014, a retelling of the Bible story of Noah's Ark. Aronofsky's next film the psychological horror “mother!”, was released on September 15, 2017. Aronofsky received the Humane Filmmaker Award from the Humane Society of the United States in 2014.
