Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. is an American professional boxing promoter and former professional boxer.

Childhood & Early Life

Floyd was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on February 24, 1977.His father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., is a former welterweight contender and mother Deborah Sinclair was a hopeless drug addict. His uncles Jeff and the late Roger Mayweather were professional boxers. He attended Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

 

Career

Boxing has been a part of Mayweather's life since his childhood and he never seriously considered any other profession. Mayweather won the national Golden Gloves championships in 1993, 1994 and 1996.Mayweather won a bronze medal by reaching the semi-finals of the featherweight (57-kg) division, at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

 

Mayweather won his first professional bout on October 11, 1996, he defeated to newcomer Roberto Apodaca in Round 2, under his trainer uncle, Roger Mayweather. At the professional, from 1996 to 1998, Mayweather won most of his fights by knockout or TKO. Mayweather widely considered the greatest boxer of his era, undefeated as a professional, he won five-division world champion.  Mayweather won twelve world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes/welterweight division.

 

2012 to 2015, the Forbes listing him as the highest paid athlete in the world. In the 2010, the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) named him as the "Fighter of the Decade". Mayweather is a two-time winner of The Ring magazine's "Fighter of the Year award" (1998 and 2007).He is also a three-time winner of the BWAA Fighter of the Year award (2007, 2013, and 2015).

 

In 2016, Floyd Mayweather was ranked by American international basic cable sports channel ESPN as the greatest boxer, pound for pound, of the last 25 years. Mayweather has a record of 26 consecutive wins in world title fights, 23 wins in lineal title fights, 24 wins against current or former world titlists, 12 wins against current or former lineal champions, and 5 wins against International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees.

 

He is the owner of "Mayweather Boxing Club, in the Chinatown Plaza in Las Vegas.
