Robert Klein is an American stand-up comedian, singer,
and actor. Klein has made several albums in the 1970s, for which he was
nominated for a Best Actor in a Musical Tony Award for They're Playing Our Song
(1979).
Childhood
& Early Life
Robert Klein was born in the Bronx, New York, United
States, on 8 February 1942. He is son of Frieda and Benjamin Klein. Klein has
an older sister, Rhoda. Klein is graduate from DeWitt Clinton High School.
During his studies at Alfred University, Klein deciding to go into acting.
Career
While studying at the Yale Drama School, Klein was
chosen as a cast member of The Second City in 1965. In 1970, Klein's first
major appearance was as host in television series "Comedy Tonight".
In 1974, Klein appeared in an episode of "Paul Sand in Friends and Lovers".
On 15 November 1975 and on 28 January 1978, Klein hosted Saturday Night Live.
In 1979, Klein was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for
his role in They're Playing Our Song. Klein has made several albums, including
Child of the 50s (1973), Mind Over Matter (1974), New Teeth (1975), Let's Not
Make Love (1990). In his second album, Mind Over Matter (1974), included
extensive discussion of the Watergate scandal.
Klein has appeared in several films, such as The Owl
and the Pussycat (1970), Hooper (1978), The Last Unicorn (1982), Radioland
Murders (1994), One Fine Day (1996), Primary Colors (1998), Two Weeks Notice
(2002), How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), and Ira and Abby (2006).
Klein has play a recurring role in the TV drama series
Sisters. He also appeared as a guest star in the animated series
"Duckman", and in the television sitcom "The King of
Queens". Klein has wrote an autobiography, The Amorous Busboy of Decatur
Avenue: A Child of the Fifties Looks Back (2006).
