Alicia Augello Cook known professionally as Alicia Keys, is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Keys has sold over 90 million records worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling music artists. She achieved acclaim for her unique style and maturity as a classical musician and singer-songwriter.


Childhood & Early Life


Alicia Augello Cook was born on January 25, 1981, in the Hell's Kitchen, New York, United States to Teresa Augello and Craig Cook. Alicia's father, Craig Cook, is African-American and mother, Terria Joseph is Caucasian. Alicia's maternal grandfather was of Italian descent and grandmother was English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry.


Alicia began taking piano lessons at age 7 at her mother's insistence. Keys loved music and singing from early childhood. She proved to be such a prodigy that she was later accepted into the prestigious Professional Performance Arts School of Manhattan, where she majored in choir.




At age 16, in 1998 she signed with Arista Records, and wrote and recorded her own albums. Her 2001 debut album, "Songs in A Minor," sold 6 million copies and garnered five Grammy Awards. Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003), was also a commercial success, the album sell eight million copies worldwide, and the album garnered her an additional four Grammy Awards.


Her third album, As I Am (2007), sold seven million copies worldwide. Her fourth album, The Element of Freedom (2009), sold four million copies worldwide. Her fifth album Girl on Fire (2012), became her fifth Billboard 200 topping album, and included the successful title track. Her sixth studio album, Here (2016), became her seventh US R&B/Hip-Hop chart-topping album. Her seventh and eighth studio albums, Alicia (2020) and Keys (2021),


Apart from this, her commercial success album includes albums like Girl on Fire (2012), Here (2016), Alicia (2020) and Keys (2021).


Personal Life


Alicia Keys married hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz in July 2010. They have their two son; a son named Egypt (born in October 2010) and another son named Genesis (born in December 2014).
