Sarah Kate Silverman is an American comedian, actress,
and writer. Silverman is a two time winner Primetime Emmy Awards for her work
on television.
Childhood
& Early Life
Silverman was born in Bedford, New Hampshire. She is
daughter Beth Ann and Donald Silverman. Her mother Beth had been George
McGovern's personal campaign photographer and father Donald trained as a social
worker and also ran the clothing shop. Silverman is the youngest child of Beth
Ann and Donald Silverman. Silverman has three sisters, Susan Silverman, a
reform rabbi and author, Laura Silverman is a writer and actress, and Jodyne L.
Speyer who is also a writer. Her brother Jeffrey Michael died when he was three
months old.
Career
The first time Silverman performed stand-up comedy was
in Boston, when she was at age 17. She is graduate from The Derryfield School
in Manchester in 1989. After beginning her stand-up comedian career in 1992,
Silverman was part of the 1993–94 season of Saturday Night Live. She has work
at Saturday Night Live for 18 weeks as a writer and featured player.
She appeared in The Larry Sanders Show episode
"The New Writer" (1996), as well as appeared in three episodes of
Larry Sanders during its final two seasons. She starred in the HBO sketch
comedy series Mr. Show (1995–1997). In 1997, She had the leading role in film
Who's the Caboose?. Silverman and director Sam Seder made a six-episode
television series sequel titled "Pilot Season". On July 3, 1997, she
made her standup comedy debut on the "Late Show with David
Letterman".
Silverman has play guest appearances, on Star Trek:
Voyager in the two-part time-travel episode "Future's End" (1996).
She had small role in the several films, including School of Rock, The Way of
the Gun, Overnight Delivery, Screwed, Heartbreakers, Evolution, and School for
Scoundrels, Funny People and Rent. In 2005, Silverman released her concert
film, "Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic", which earned approximately
$1.3 million at the box office.
In February 2007, her television sitcom "The Sarah
Silverman Program" debuted on Comedy Central. She was nominated for a
Primetime Emmy Award for her acting on "The Sarah Silverman Program".
In January 2008, she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Silverman and Matt Damon sang a duet song called
"I'm Fucking Matt Damon", for
which was she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and
Lyrics at the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards. Silverman starred in the drama film
"I Smile Back" (2015), for which she was nominated for a Screen
Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading
Role.
During the 2016 election, she campaigned for Bernie
Sanders. Later she spoke in support of Hillary Clinton at the 2016 Democratic
National Convention.
