Who is Ray Dell Curry?

 

Wardell Stephen Curry Sr. is an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1986 until 2002.

 

Dell retired as the Charlotte Hornets' all-time leader in points (9,839) and three-point field goals made (929). Dell Curry currently works as a color commentator, alongside Eric Collins, on Charlotte Hornets television broadcasts. He is the father of NBA professional players Stephen Curry and NBA professional players Seth Curry.

 

Early Life / Childhood days

 

Dell Curry was born on June 25, 1964, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Dell showed interest in sports from his childhood. Curry was played high school basketball at Fort Defiance, where he used his coach's barn to practice shooting daily.

 

He is the all-time leading scorer in school history. While in school, Curry played both basketball and baseball, and won state championships in both sports. In the 1982, he was selected by the Texas Rangers for Major League Baseball draft. He finished his ‘Virginia Tech’ career with a total of 2389 points and 295 steals, becoming the second all-time and all-time leader, and a 6–1 record with a 3.81 ERA in baseball.

 

NBA Career

 

Curry was selected by the Utah Jazz in the 1986 NBA draft. He played one season in Utah Jazz. He was selected by Charlotte Hornets in the 1988 NBA expansion draft, where he spent 10 seasons. Curry played one season for the Milwaukee Bucks before playing his final three seasons in the NBA for the NBA professional team Toronto Raptors.

 

He holds his total career averages of 11.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. He is all-time leading scorer in Hornets history with 9,839 points. In 2007, he was appointed the assistant coach of NBA’s ‘Charlotte Bobcats. In 2009, Dell started working as a color commentator for the Charlotte Bobcats (now Charlotte Hornets).

 

Awards & honors

 

He was a regular in the discussions for Sixth Man of the Year and won the honor in the 1993–94 season. In 2004, Curry was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. In the year 2016, Dell was awarded the ‘Bobby Jones Award’.
