Who is Ray Michael Jeffrey Jordan?

 

Michael Jeffrey Jordan is an American businessman and former professional basketball player.  Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. Jordan played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), winning six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls. Jordan was twice inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, once in 2009 and again in 2010.

 

Early life / Childhood days

 

Jordan was born in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, New York City, on February 17, 1963, at Cumberland Hospital. He is son of bank employee Deloris and equipment supervisor James R. Jordan Sr. Jordan is the fourth of five children. He has two older brothers, Larry Jordan and James R. Jordan Jr., one older sister, Deloris, and one younger sister, Roslyn.

 

Jordan attended Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, where he playing basketball, baseball, and football. As a senior, Jordan was selected to play in the 1981 "McDonald's All-American Game". When Jordan studying in college, he was recruited by numerous college basketball programs, including Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia.

 

In 1981, he was offered a scholarship by the University of North Carolina based on his performance in basketball. When he played for college basketball team "Tar Heels", he averaged 17.7 ppg on 54.0% shooting, and added 5.0 rpg and 1.8 apg.

 

Jordan won the Naismith and the Wooden College Player of the Year awards in 1984. In 1986, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography. The Chicago Bulls selected Jordan with the third overall pick of the 1984 NBA draft.

 

NBA Career

 

On October 26, Jordan made his NBA debut at Chicago Stadium, and scored 16 points. During his rookie 1984–85 season with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan averaged 28.2 ppg on 51.5% shooting, and helped make a team that had won 35% of games in the previous three seasons playoff contenders. During the 1987–88 season, Jordan score averaging 35.0 ppg on 53.5% shooting, and he won his first league MVP Award.

 

In the 1988–89 season, Jordan score averaging 32.5 ppg on 53.8% shooting from the field, along with 8 rpg and 8 apg. As a point guard, Jordan averaged 10 triple-doubles in 11 games, with 33.6 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 10.8 apg, 2.9 spg, and 0.8 bpg on 51% shooting. In the 1990–91 season, Jordan won his second MVP award after averaging 31.5 ppg on 53.9% shooting, 6.0 rpg, and 5.5 apg for the regular season. Jordan made his debut for the U.S. national basketball team at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas, Venezuela. He led the team in scoring with 17.3 ppg as the U.S., won the gold medal in the competition.

 

A year later, he won another gold medal in the 1984 Summer Olympics.

 

National basketball Career

 

The U.S. national basketball team went on to win two gold medals, one in the 1992 Tournament of the Americas, and the second in the 1992 Summer Olympics. Jordan was the only player to start all eight games in the Olympics, averaged 14.9 ppg, and finished second on the team in scoring. The U.S. national basketball team never lost a single game in the four tournaments in which Jordan played in 1983, 1984, and 1992.

 

He retired for good following the 2002-03 season and was subsequently dismissed as president of the Washington Wizards. In June 2006, he became part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats.
